Brain Week 2019
- 18 March to 28 May 2019
Nowadays, experts in neuroscience, physiology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and in many other humanistic and scientific disciplines are wondering about the role of silence in relation to the different aspects of our lives. Some of these aspects are emotions, awareness of ourselves and of the world around us, consciousness, and well-being.
The aim of the event promoted by the Research Institute for Neuroscience, Education, and Didactics (RINED) of the Patrizio Paoletti Foundation is precisely to explore the neurophysiology of silence, that is, that set of psychophysiological phenomena that links the functioning of our brain to the cognitive processes and behaviors. In particular, we would like to reflect about the following question: what happens, at a neurophysiological level, when we remain silent?
To this end, we will be happy to host, in our structure, all those who want to “touch” science, discover what happens in a neuroscience laboratory and understand how our brain reacts to silence and what happens to our emotions, our state of awareness, conscience and well-being.
The techniques (absolutely non-invasive) that will be used will allow to measure one or more of the following parameters:
- electrocortical activity of the brain (EEG)
- Heart Rate Variability (HRV)
- Skin conductance
- Respiratory rate
- Time perception
- Molecular changes (through a small saliva sample)
